  4. I think this is finally done but we will see. I submitted this to my instructor and he gave me some things to work on. Here is what was adjusted.
1) Lightened the background around the wall behind the left hand. This helps take the hand back from the foreground.
2) I pushed the body a bit by going a value darker on the torso, neck, and face. It helps make the body look more dimensional.
3) I lightened the line that divides the wall from the ground. This is a change from the reference photo but it makes the subject move forward.
4) I added dark valued line to the pants and lightened some areas. This is also a deviation from the reference but my job isn’t to copy exactly anyways. There’s room for interpretation.
5) I adjusted the right knee a bit.
6) To bring out the line detail in the shoes, I used the tip of a sharp knife to scrape the paper where the lines should be.

  10. Decided I wanted to use a quill style pen, so I picked up a Bic disposable, medium point, quill pen.  Though I liked the feel of the pen scratching on the paper, I didn’t like the lack of control of how much ink is dispensed that you have with something like a ball point.  If I found a fine point, that might make up for the disadvantages.
